Suriya Breaks Silence on ‘Rolex’: “Lokesh Kanagaraj Is Writing It”… But Fans May Have to Wait Longer
The actor confirms the much-awaited standalone Rolex film is still alive, even as director Lokesh Kanagaraj remains occupied with multiple high-profile projects.
Chennai: Fans of Suriya and the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) finally have a reason to celebrate. After months of speculation, the actor has confirmed that the highly anticipated standalone Rolex film is still in development, with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj actively working on the script.
While the update has reignited excitement among movie lovers, Suriya also made it clear that the project is unlikely to begin anytime soon because of Lokesh’s packed schedule.
Speaking in a recent interview, Suriya revealed that he is uncertain about the film’s production timeline but remains confident that the project has not been shelved.“Lokesh is busy with his upcoming projects. I keep hearing him say in interviews that Rolex is happening and that he is writing it. Time will tell when it finally happens,” the actor said.
The statement has come as welcome news for fans who have been eagerly waiting for more updates since Rolex made a stunning appearance in the climax of Vikram. Although the character appeared only briefly, Suriya’s powerful performance as the ruthless crime lord left a lasting impression and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.

Since then, audiences have repeatedly demanded a standalone film exploring the mysterious gangster’s backstory, his rise to power and his role in the expanding LCU.
However, bringing the project to the big screen may take some time. Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently committed to directing a major film starring Allu Arjun. Reports also suggest that Vikram 2 is among the filmmaker’s future priorities, making it difficult to predict when Rolex will officially enter production.

Despite the delay, Suriya’s latest comments suggest that the film continues to remain an important long-term project, with script development already underway.
Meanwhile, the actor himself has a busy schedule ahead. Suriya is gearing up for the theatrical release of Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on August 14. The star is also enjoying renewed momentum following the success of Karuppu, a film that marked a strong comeback at the box office and has further increased anticipation surrounding his upcoming projects.
For now, fans may have to remain patient, but Suriya’s reassurance has made one thing clear Rolex is far from forgotten, and the journey of one of the LCU’s most intriguing characters is still very much in the works.
