Waive Their Bill, Shah Rukh Khan’s ₹42 Lakh Gesture for Marathi Film Leaves Industry in Awe
Shah Rukh Khan steps in to support regional cinema, as Deool Band 2 director reveals how the superstar chose art over money.
Shah Rukh Khan has once again highlighted why he is regarded as not just a superstar, but a true patron of cinema.
Marathi filmmaker Pravin Tarde has shared how Shah Rukh extended crucial support to his film Deool Band 2 by waiving off dues worth ₹42 lakh—at a time when the project was struggling financially.
The Financial Hurdle That Almost Stopped the Film
During post-production, the team of Deool Band 2 approached Red Chillies Entertainment for a Digital Cinema Package (DCP)—a necessary format for theatrical release.
While the makers had budgeted ₹12 lakh for the process, the final cost surged to ₹42 lakh, far beyond their means.
Faced with a financial crunch, Tarde reached out to the production house, explaining the limitations of a regional film budget and requesting assistance.
When the Matter Reached Shah Rukh Khan
The issue eventually came to Shah Rukh Khan’s attention. Curious, he asked his team about the project and its creators.
Learning that the film was helmed by the makers of Mulshi Pattern—which inspired Antim: The Final Truth starring Salman Khan—SRK recognized the credibility of the team.

His team also informed him that Deool Band 2 was a well-crafted emotional film, but the makers were unable to afford the DCP despite it being ready.
“The Film Is More Important Than Money”
What followed is a moment that has now become a talking point across the industry.
According to Tarde, Shah Rukh simply instructed his team:
“Waive off their bill… It’s a Marathi film. Give them the DCP. We can sort out the payments later.”

This decision ensured that the film could release on time—without financial barriers holding it back.
From Struggle to Success
Today, Deool Band 2 has crossed an impressive ₹80 crore at the worldwide box office, emerging as one of the highest-grossing Marathi films ever.
Tarde credits this success not just to the film’s content, but also to the timely support it received.
“He helped us when nobody knew if the film would work or not… I will forever be grateful,” he said.
A Superstar Beyond Stardom
Shah Rukh Khan’s gesture underscores a larger truth about his relationship with cinema—one that goes beyond commercial success.
At a time when the film had no guarantees, he chose belief over business.
And perhaps, that belief played a small but meaningful role in turning Deool Band 2 into the success story it is today.
