Prithviraj Sukumaran confirms that ‘Lucifer 3’ is in the works, with writer Murali Gopy already preparing the story.

Fans of the blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ franchise have reason to celebrate as actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has officially confirmed that the much-awaited third instalment of the series is very much on the cards.

While promoting his upcoming film ‘I, Nobody’, Prithviraj revealed that the ‘Lucifer’ trilogy was always envisioned as a larger story, with ‘L2: Empuraan’ serving as the crucial middle chapter.

Speaking about the future of the franchise, Prithviraj explained that while the team wasn’t initially sure if ‘Lucifer’ would expand beyond one film, things became much clearer during the making of ‘Empuraan’.

“When we made Lucifer, we weren’t sure if the story would continue into a second or third film. But by the time we were filming Empuraan, we were confident that the trilogy would be completed,” he said.

The revelation has only heightened excitement among fans, especially given the massive popularity of Mohanlal’s character Stephen Nedumpally, who remains at the heart of the story.

Murali Gopy already has the story

Adding to the buzz, Prithviraj revealed that writer Murali Gopy has already developed the storyline for ‘L3’.

According to him, the narrative arc of ‘Empuraan’ was deliberately structured to naturally lead into the final chapter, ensuring a seamless conclusion to the trilogy.

“Murali has a clear idea about the story for the third part, and he has shared it with me. He is very excited about it and we want to do it,” Prithviraj said.

This confirms that the creative foundation for the film is already in place.

Busy schedules may delay the project

While the confirmation has thrilled fans, Prithviraj admitted that scheduling the film will be the biggest hurdle.

The actor-filmmaker currently has a packed slate of projects lined up, both in front of and behind the camera.

Apart from ‘I, Nobody’, he is also attached to major upcoming projects like ‘Varanasi’, reportedly alongside SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu, as well as ‘Odiyan: The Age of Illusion’, directed by Rahul Sadasivan.

With so many commitments ahead, finding the right time to begin ‘L3’ may take some patience.

During the same promotional round, Prithviraj also spoke highly of his ‘I, Nobody’ co-star Parvathy Thiruvothu, calling her one of the most intelligent actors he has worked with.

The two actors have previously collaborated in critically acclaimed films like ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ and ‘Koode’.

Prithviraj praised Parvathy not just for her acting, but for her deep understanding of cinema as a whole.

He even went on to say that he believes she has the creative instincts to become a director in the future.

Directed by Nisam Basheer, ‘I, Nobody’ stars Prithviraj and Parvathy in lead roles and is slated for a theatrical release on July 9.

Meanwhile, for fans of ‘Lucifer’, one thing is now clear — the story of Stephen Nedumpally is far from over.
