Mumbai: In an encouraging sign for content-driven cinema, Imtiaz Ali’s latest directorial venture Main Vaapas Aaunga has managed to achieve something many films struggle with — earning more on its first Monday than on its opening day.

The film, headlined by veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, has been receiving appreciation from audiences and filmmakers alike for its emotionally layered storytelling. According to the latest box office figures, the film collected approximately Rs 1.25 crore on Monday, slightly surpassing its opening-day collection of Rs 1.15 crore.

The steady performance suggests that positive audience feedback is helping the film attract viewers even after the initial weekend rush. The movie reportedly witnessed screenings across more than 2,100 shows nationwide on Monday, reflecting sustained interest despite competition from commercial entertainers.

Strong Weekend Sets the Foundation

The film opened modestly on Friday but witnessed healthy growth over the weekend. After collecting around Rs 1.15 crore on its first day, the earnings climbed to Rs 1.85 crore on Saturday and further jumped to Rs 2.50 crore on Sunday.

With this performance, Main Vaapas Aaunga has accumulated approximately Rs 8.10 crore gross in India, while its net collection stands at nearly Rs 6.75 crore.

While the numbers may not match blockbuster standards, industry observers see the trend as a positive indicator for a film that relies heavily on storytelling and emotional depth rather than large-scale spectacle.

A Story Rooted in History and Human Emotions

At the heart of Main Vaapas Aaunga lies a deeply moving narrative set against the backdrop of the Partition of India. The film explores themes of displacement, love, identity, and longing, capturing the emotional scars carried across generations.

Known for crafting emotionally resonant stories, Imtiaz Ali once again delves into complex human relationships, blending a classic love story with historical trauma. The result is a film that has struck a chord with audiences looking for meaningful cinema.

The film marks another important collaboration for Imtiaz Ali, who reunites with acclaimed composer A. R. Rahman and lyricist Irshad Kamil. The trio has previously delivered memorable musical albums for films such as Rockstar, Highway, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila.

The project also represents Imtiaz Ali’s second collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh following the success of Amar Singh Chamkila, further adding to the excitement surrounding the film.

Can Word-of-Mouth Take It Further?

As the first week progresses, all eyes will be on whether Main Vaapas Aaunga can continue its steady box office journey. With strong critical appreciation, positive audience reactions, and support from industry veterans, the film appears to have found a loyal audience.

In an era dominated by big-budget spectacles, the film’s performance serves as a reminder that compelling stories and genuine emotions can still draw viewers to theatres.
