“The sound of his bat was like a gunshot…”: Kumar Sangakkara’s first Vaibhav Sooryavanshi story is blowing fans away

India’s teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to build excitement even before making his international debut, and now a remarkable story from Kumar Sangakkara has added even more hype around the youngster.

The former Sri Lankan captain has revealed the first time he saw Vaibhav bat in the nets for Rajasthan Royals, and his words have already sent fans into a frenzy.

According to Sangakkara, the sheer power and sound off Vaibhav’s bat felt like a “gunshot” every single time.

The day Vaibhav stunned Jofra Archer

The incident dates back to last year, just before the Indian Premier League, when Sangakkara was serving as Director of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals, alongside Rahul Dravid, who was the team’s head coach.

Sangakkara recalled arriving in Guwahati for a two-week camp when he noticed a difficult side net where none of the batters were keen to face the new ball.

That’s when Vaibhav, just 14 years old at the time, stepped up.

“I saw this tiny side net where no one really wanted to bat against Archer and Sandeep Sharma with the new ball,” Sangakkara said.

Then came the unforgettable moment.

“The sound of his bat was like a gunshot every single time.”

Archer could only laugh

What followed stunned even the seasoned pros.

Sangakkara revealed that Vaibhav attacked both Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma fearlessly, smashing them with authority.

He even claimed that Archer, known for his raw pace, eventually stopped and laughed at the teenager’s audacity.

“He put Archer to the sword. He put Sandeep Sharma to the sword,” Sangakkara recalled.

For a teenager to dominate experienced international bowlers in the nets was enough to convince the Royals camp they had something special.

Sangakkara’s message to Rahul Dravid

After the net session, Sangakkara didn’t hesitate in giving his verdict to Rahul Dravid.

“He’s ready to play anytime you want him to.”

That endorsement from one of cricket’s sharpest minds shows just how highly Vaibhav is rated behind the scenes.

Will India hand him a debut?

Vaibhav was part of India’s squad for the opening T20I against Ireland national cricket team, but he did not make the playing XI as India suffered a shock defeat in Stormont, Belfast.

Chasing 183, the India national cricket team collapsed for 148, losing by 34 runs.

With pressure mounting ahead of the second T20I, fans are now wondering whether the management will finally hand the teenager his debut.
