Chiranjeevi was the original choice for the family man, Reveals Raj Nidimoru; Manoj Bajpayee came later
Raj Nidimoru reveals that Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi was initially envisioned as the lead of The Family Man when the project was being developed as a feature film before evolving into the hit web series starring Manoj Bajpayee.
Few Indian web series have achieved the kind of popularity and critical acclaim enjoyed by The Family Man. With Manoj Bajpayee becoming synonymous with the character of Srikant Tiwari, it is difficult for fans to imagine anyone else in the role. However, a recent revelation by filmmaker Raj Nidimoru has shed light on a fascinating alternate version of the project that almost became a reality.
During a recent interaction, Raj disclosed that Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi was actually the first choice for the lead role long before the show found its home on streaming platforms.
The Family Man Was Originally Planned as a Feature Film
According to Raj Nidimoru, the creators initially conceived the story as a theatrical feature film rather than a multi-season web series.
“Chiranjeevi was our first choice for The Family Man,” Raj revealed, explaining that the original script was developed with the legendary actor in mind.
He further shared that the project underwent significant changes during development. Due to various circumstances, the team eventually decided to rework the concept into a long-format streaming series, opening the door for a different casting direction.
As the story evolved, Manoj Bajpayee came on board and ultimately transformed Srikant Tiwari into one of the most memorable characters in Indian streaming history.
A Career-Defining Role for Manoj Bajpayee
When The Family Man premiered in 2019, it quickly became one of the biggest successes in India’s OTT landscape.
The series struck a perfect balance between high-stakes espionage, family drama, humour, and social commentary. Much of its success was credited to Manoj Bajpayee’s nuanced performance as a middle-class intelligence officer juggling national security threats and everyday family responsibilities.
Alongside Bajpayee, the show also featured strong performances from Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, Ashlesha Thakur, and Vedant Sinha, helping establish the series as a benchmark for Indian web content.
More Seasons May Be on the Way
Fans waiting for the next chapter of the franchise received another encouraging update from Raj Nidimoru.

The filmmaker hinted that the creators have a much larger vision for The Family Man universe and that the story is far from reaching its conclusion.
“We have a bigger plan in mind and this was like a pause at the midpoint,” Raj said while discussing the future of the series.
When asked whether Season 4 could arrive sooner than expected, he responded positively, suggesting that audiences may not have to wait too long for the next installment.
The remarks have reignited excitement among fans eager to see what lies ahead for Srikant Tiwari and his team.

Chiranjeevi Reflects on Meaningful Storytelling
Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi has been speaking about the kinds of stories he would like to explore in his own career.
During a discussion surrounding Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi, the veteran actor expressed his admiration for sports dramas such as Dangal and Chak De! India.
He explained that he has always been drawn to powerful, emotionally driven narratives and would gladly take on such roles if the right scripts came his way.
Chiranjeevi noted that while he admired the performances and storytelling in those films, it ultimately depends on filmmakers bringing similar concepts to him.
With Raj Nidimoru’s revelation now public, fans can only imagine how different The Family Man might have been had the project remained a feature film and featured Chiranjeevi in the lead role. Yet, the transformation into a web series and the casting of Manoj Bajpayee ultimately helped create one of India’s most celebrated streaming franchises.
