‘I lost everything’: Avinash Sachdev reveals he sold his house and car during COVID… says ‘I had to ask my father for money’

Mumbai: Television actor Avinash Sachdev has candidly spoken about one of the most difficult phases of his life, revealing that the COVID-19 pandemic left him financially devastated. The actor shared that he lost his savings, sold his house and car, and even had to depend on his father for financial support after his business failed.

Marking 22 years in the entertainment industry, Avinash reflected on how his priorities as an actor have changed. Speaking about his recent television comeback with Mangal Lakshmi, he said that he is no longer concerned about whether a role is positive or negative. Instead, he now looks for characters with depth and substance.

“At this stage in my career, the strength of the character matters more than whether it is a hero or a villain,” he said, adding that he is open to playing negative roles not only on television but also in films and OTT projects.

However, the actor admitted that the road back to television was far from easy.

Avinash revealed that he had launched a restaurant in January 2020, just before the pandemic brought businesses across the country to a standstill. Despite trying to keep the venture running for nearly one and a half years, mounting losses eventually forced him to shut it down.

Recalling the financial crisis, the actor said he sold his house and car to pay his employees’ salaries before moving into a rented home in October 2021.

“I came down to zero. I even had to ask my father for money,” Avinash shared, describing it as the lowest point of his personal and professional life.

The prolonged uncertainty also affected his mental well-being. He revealed that he experienced anxiety, frequent mood swings, and trembling hands during that period. According to the actor, meditation and the unwavering support of his parents helped him overcome the emotional challenges.

Just when he hoped things were improving, another setback followed. After the lockdown, Avinash signed two films as the lead actor, but both projects were eventually shelved. He admitted that losing nearly one and a half years on films that never materialised was deeply frustrating, especially after exhausting his savings.

The actor said financial necessity was one of the key reasons he accepted an offer to participate in Bigg Boss OTT 2 in 2023. Looking back, he described the reality show as a turning point that helped revive his career and reconnect him with audiences.

Avinash also addressed his much-discussed bond with fellow Bigg Boss OTT 2 contestant Falaq Naaz. While the two developed a close friendship inside the reality show, he admitted that their relationship did not continue after the cameras stopped rolling.

According to the actor, reality shows present only one phase of a person’s personality, and relationships often change once contestants return to their everyday lives.

On the personal front, Avinash said he is currently single and fully focused on rebuilding his career. However, he added that he remains open to finding the right life partner in the future if the right person comes along.

With a renewed focus on acting and new opportunities across television, films, and OTT platforms, Avinash Sachdev says he is determined to move forward after overcoming one of the toughest chapters of his life.
