Audi Q9 Unveiled as the Brand’s Biggest SUV Ever: India Launch Confirmed, But Here’s What Makes It Stand Out…

Audi has taken the wraps off the Q9, the biggest and most premium SUV the German luxury carmaker has ever produced. Positioned above the popular Q7, the new Q9 becomes Audi’s flagship three-row SUV and introduces the brand’s first-ever vehicle to carry the ‘9’ designation.

The SUV has been priced from EUR 108,400 in Germany (approximately ₹1.18 crore before taxes and import duties). International deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026, while the Indian market is expected to receive the Q9 in the second quarter of 2027, with local assembly planned.

For Indian buyers in the premium SUV segment, the arrival of the Audi Q9 will intensify competition against established rivals like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Bold Design with Premium Features

The Audi Q9 makes a strong road presence with its massive dimensions, measuring 5,309 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, and 1,794 mm in height, supported by a long 3,138 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose alloy wheels ranging from 20 inches to 23 inches.

At the front, the SUV features Audi’s latest Digital Matrix LED headlights, capable of projecting warning symbols onto the road. It also includes ground-projected turn indicators, an illuminated front grille, automatic doors with collision-detection sensors, and stylish curved OLED taillights.

Audi has also introduced a sportier SQ9 variant for global markets, featuring unique bumpers, exclusive alloy wheels, and a more aggressive grille design.

Luxury-Focused Cabin with Three Screens

Inside, the Q9 offers seating for seven passengers as standard, while buyers can opt for a six-seat captain-chair configuration. Impressively, every seat across all three rows is electrically adjustable.

The dashboard is dominated by a modern three-display setup, consisting of:

• 12.3-inch digital driver display
• 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen
• 12.3-inch passenger display with privacy mode

The system runs on Android Automotive OS, offering a connected and intuitive user experience.

Passengers also benefit from Audi’s largest panoramic sunroof, a premium 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with integrated headrest speakers, and USB Type-C charging ports across all three seating rows.

Advanced Safety and Semi-Autonomous Driving

Safety remains a major highlight of the new Audi Q9. The SUV comes equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) along with the company’s new Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus.

This technology enables partially automated driving on approved highways at speeds of up to 130 km/h, making it one of Audi’s most advanced driver-assistance systems introduced so far.

Multiple Engine Choices for Global Markets

Audi will offer different powertrain options depending on the market.

The German version receives a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing 299 hp and 630 Nm of torque, supported by a mild-hybrid system.

For the United States, Audi offers a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine generating 429 hp.

At the top of the range sits the performance-focused SQ9, powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 delivering an impressive 591 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds, placing it among the quickest luxury SUVs in its class.

India Launch Expected in 2027

Audi has confirmed that the Q9 will arrive in India during the second quarter of 2027. The SUV is expected to be locally assembled, a move that could help keep pricing competitive in the luxury segment.

The Q9 also marks the debut of a new platform that will later underpin Porsche’s upcoming flagship SUV (codename K1), expected to debut in 2028. This shared architecture highlights the Volkswagen Group’s strategy of expanding its portfolio of high-end SUVs.
