Apple’s Foldable iPhone Leaks in White, But There’s a Catch… No ‘Fun Colours’ Expected for the Ultra-Premium Device

A leaked prototype of Apple’s rumoured foldable iPhone suggests the company may launch the premium device in a minimalist white finish, with limited colour options expected.

Cupertino: After years of speculation, Apple may finally be inching closer to launching its first foldable smartphone, and the latest leaks are already sparking discussion among fans. However, one surprising detail is grabbing attention even before the device officially arrives — the company reportedly plans to skip the vibrant colour choices that have become popular in recent iPhone generations.

According to recent reports circulating in the tech industry, a leaked image shared by renowned tipster Ice Universe appears to show Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone in a sleek white finish. While the device seen in the image is believed to be a prototype or dummy unit used during testing, it has fueled speculation about the final design and colour strategy for Apple’s most ambitious smartphone project yet.

The foldable device, widely rumoured to be called the iPhone Ultra, is reportedly already moving through the early stages of mass production. Another well-known Chinese leaker, Instant Digital, has also suggested that white is currently the only colour variant that appears to be confirmed.

A Premium Device With Limited Colour Choices?

While Apple has not officially revealed anything about the foldable iPhone, industry insiders believe buyers should not expect a rainbow of options.

Reports suggest that a second colour could be an indigo or deep blue shade, similar to colours previously seen in Apple’s premium Pro-series devices. However, sources indicate that the overall palette may remain extremely limited compared to the expected iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

Respected technology journalist Mark Gurman has reportedly stated that Apple intends to avoid “fun colours” for its foldable debut. Instead, the company is said to be focusing on classic, understated finishes such as black and white — a strategy reminiscent of the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, which arrived only in Silver and Space Grey.

Why Is Apple Keeping Things Simple?

Industry analysts believe the answer may have less to do with aesthetics and more to do with manufacturing challenges.

Prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously warned that producing foldable devices at scale remains a significant challenge. Foldable displays, hinge mechanisms, and durability requirements make manufacturing far more complex than traditional smartphones.

Adding multiple colour variants could further complicate production and increase costs for a device that is already expected to be difficult to manufacture in large quantities.

Sources also suggest that Apple may face supply constraints through much of 2026. By limiting colour options, the company could streamline production while ensuring better inventory management during the initial rollout.

A $2,000 iPhone?

Another reason for the limited colour selection may be the device’s expected price tag.

Several reports indicate that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could cost more than $2,000, making it one of the most expensive consumer smartphones ever released by the company. At that price point, purchasing decisions are more likely to be driven by innovation, display technology, and productivity features rather than colour preferences.

Industry observers believe Apple is positioning the foldable iPhone as a luxury technology product aimed at early adopters and premium users rather than the mass market.

Launch Timeline

Current rumours point toward a launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year. While Apple remains silent about the project, the growing number of supply-chain leaks suggests that the company is preparing to unveil one of the most significant design changes in iPhone history.

Until then, Apple fans may have to settle for imagining the future of the foldable iPhone — even if that future comes in only black and white.
