‘She belongs to Tara Singh!’: Ameesha Patel recalls fans stopping Bobby Deol from hugging her on Humraaz set

More than two decades after the release of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Ameesha Patel has shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes story that highlights the extraordinary connection audiences had with her iconic character, Sakeena.

Appearing as a special guest on India’s Best Dancer Season 5, the actress recalled an unexpected incident that took place while shooting Humraaz alongside Bobby Deol at the historic Jaipur Fort.

According to Ameesha, the film’s climax required Bobby Deol’s character to walk towards her and embrace her. However, as soon as the cameras started rolling, the crowd gathered at the location reacted in a completely unexpected manner.

Instead of quietly watching the shoot, fans began shouting at Bobby Deol, asking him not to hug Ameesha. The crowd insisted that she belonged to Tara Singh, the beloved character played by Sunny Deol in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

The actress revealed that many spectators passionately reminded the crew that Tara Singh had fought to bring Sakeena back from Pakistan and that no one else should come between them. Their emotional attachment to the characters blurred the line between fiction and reality.

Eventually, the production team managed to calm the situation and clear the crowd, allowing the scene to be completed without upsetting anyone.

Looking back on the memorable experience, Ameesha said the incident reflected the immense love audiences had for Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and its unforgettable characters.

The actress also expressed her admiration for the Deol family, saying she has always enjoyed working with them and describing them as warm and wonderful people.

Released in 2001, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha became one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema, with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s portrayal of Tara Singh and Sakeena becoming deeply embedded in popular culture.
