Tiger Shroff’s Durand Cup debut takes another hit… actor reveals why he won’t play for Mumbay FC

Tiger Shroff’s much-awaited Durand Cup appearance for Mumbay FC has been put on hold once again.

The Bollywood actor was included in the club’s squad for the Durand Cup 2026, but he will not travel to Shillong for Mumbay FC’s Group E match against Nongkseh SS&CC of Meghalaya on Tuesday.

Shroff confirmed the reason himself, saying a last-minute work commitment has made it impossible for him to join the team.

In a video shared on Mumbay FC’s Instagram profile, the actor said he was disappointed to miss the game because he had been looking forward to representing the club.“Really, really unfortunate, but a work commitment has come up at the last moment, so I won’t be able to make it to Shillong for the Durand Cup.”

He went on to wish the team well, adding that he had been excited to play for Mumbay FC.

Tiger Shroff’s Durand Cup wait continues

Tiger was included in Mumbay FC’s squad for the tournament but did not feature in either of the team’s first two Group E matches.

Those games turned into difficult outings for the club.

Mumbay FC suffered a 0-5 defeat against Langsning, another Meghalaya-based side, before losing by the same scoreline to Shillong Lajong.

The back-to-back defeats have already ended Mumbay FC’s hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

That means Shroff’s absence from the final group game comes after the club has already been eliminated from contention.

The actor has been serious about competitive football

While Shroff is best known for his action films and dance performances, his association with football is more than a celebrity hobby.

The actor has been connected with Mumbay FC since the club was established in 2024 and has represented the side in the Mumbai District League.

He made his debut for the club in 2024, marking an unusual crossover between Bollywood and competitive football.

Mumbay FC currently plays in the Mumbai Premier League and I-League 3, which sits within India’s domestic football pyramid.

How Tiger ended up playing for Mumbay FC

According to Mumbay FC co-owner Zoheb Amrani, Shroff’s footballing ability first caught his attention during an influencers’ football league in 2023.

The tournament also featured Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

What began as an informal football connection eventually developed into something more serious.

Shroff reportedly expressed a desire to play competitive football, leading Amrani to complete the formal registration process required for him to compete.

Amrani recalled that Shroff took the process seriously despite coming from the entertainment industry.

He explained that the actor had to complete Centralised Registration System (CRS) registration and obtain the necessary identification before playing in an organised competition.

According to Amrani, Shroff was highly professional throughout the process.

From Bollywood action hero to football player

Shroff’s football journey is particularly interesting because of how closely it mirrors his public image.

Known for performing physically demanding action sequences on screen, the actor has maintained a strong interest in fitness and sport away from films.

Playing competitive football, however, requires more than athleticism.

It involves formal registration, tactical discipline, training and the ability to compete against players who have spent years in the sport.

Shroff’s willingness to enter that environment has therefore attracted attention beyond his Bollywood career.

Mumbay FC’s difficult Durand Cup campaign

For Mumbay FC, the focus now shifts to finishing the tournament on a positive note.

The club’s first two matches exposed the difficulty of competing against more established sides, with the two heavy defeats leaving them without a realistic route to qualification.

Shroff had hoped to contribute on the pitch, but his latest work commitment means fans will have to wait for another opportunity to see the actor represent the club in a major tournament.
