Harare, Zimbabwe: The stage is set for an exciting three-match T20I series between India and Zimbabwe, but ahead of the opening clash, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has made one thing clear—he does not see India as overwhelming favourites.

Despite India arriving in Harare as the reigning T20 World Champions, Raza believes the contest will be far more balanced than many expect. Speaking before the series opener, the experienced all-rounder said both sides have an equal opportunity to emerge victorious, promising cricket fans an entertaining battle.“Both countries will have an equal chance in this series. Zimbabwe has been playing consistent and exciting cricket, so I believe this will be a very entertaining contest,” Raza said.

India Searching for a Fresh Start

The series carries extra importance for India, who are looking to regain confidence after a difficult run in T20 internationals.

Under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer, India’s transition has not produced the desired results so far. The team suffered a historic bilateral series defeat against Ireland before enduring another disappointing series loss against England, raising questions about the team’s new direction.

With several young players eager to cement their places in the national squad, the Zimbabwe tour presents a valuable opportunity to rebuild momentum and experiment with combinations ahead of future global tournaments.

The last time India toured Zimbabwe in 2024, shortly after lifting the T20 World Cup, they recovered from an opening defeat to claim the five-match series 4-1.

However, Zimbabwe’s recent performances suggest they are now a much stronger side capable of pushing even the world’s best teams.

The entire series will be played at the Harare Sports Club, with the first match scheduled for Thursday, followed by the remaining games on July 25 and July 26.
