Los Angeles: Switzerland delivered a statement performance in the FIFA World Cup, overpowering Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 on Thursday night to put their campaign firmly back on track. After a frustrating draw in their opener, the Swiss looked determined to make amends — and they did so in emphatic fashion.

The star of the night was Johan Manzambi, who netted a brilliant brace to guide Switzerland to a dominant victory at the SoFi Stadium. His clinical finishing, combined with late strikes from Ruben Vargas and veteran midfielder Granit Xhaka, sealed an important three points for the European side.

Switzerland had entered the clash under pressure after being held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar in their opening Group B fixture. But this commanding display has now lifted them to the top of the group with four points, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage.

For Bosnia and Herzegovina, however, the defeat could prove costly. After their shock playoff win over Italy to book their place in the tournament, hopes were high. But with just one point from two games, their journey now hangs by a thread.

Meanwhile, in Atlanta, South Africa fought hard to salvage a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic, keeping their World Cup dream alive.

The Czechs took the lead through Michal Sadílek, but South Africa found their equalizer thanks to a crucial penalty from Teboho Mokoena.

The result leaves both sides on one point, with their final group-stage matches now becoming must-win encounters.

Off the pitch, another major story grabbed attention. Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi was finally granted entry into Canada after visa complications linked to ongoing spot-fixing allegations in France. The young forward had initially been ruled out of Ivory Coast’s clash against Germany, but the late clearance means he could now feature.

With knockout qualification hanging in the balance and controversies building off the field, the FIFA World Cup continues to deliver drama both on and off the pitch.
