Where Does ‘Alpha’ Fit in YRF’s spy universe? Hrithik’s Return, Sharvari’s Secret & the Theory Fans Can’t Ignore
With Alpha hitting theatres on July 3, the biggest question remains—how deeply is it connected to War, Pathaan and Tiger 3?
With Alpha set to hit cinemas on July 3, fans of the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe are piecing together clues to understand where exactly this highly anticipated film fits into the ever-expanding franchise timeline.
What seemed at first like a standalone action thriller is now looking far more connected than expected.
Led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, Alpha is not just introducing a new generation of female spies it may also be quietly setting up the future of the YRF Spy Universe.
Is ‘Alpha’ set after War 2?
Going by the trailer and fan speculation, Alpha appears to take place after the events of War 2, making it one of the latest stories in the franchise timeline.
Although the makers have described it as an “origin story,” it doesn’t seem disconnected from the larger universe. Instead, it feels like a fresh beginning within an already evolving spy world one where the stakes are now even bigger.
Alia Bhatt’s Sita: A Ramayana-inspired arc
Alia’s character, Sita, already stands out as one of the franchise’s most layered protagonists.
The trailer reveals that she was kidnapped as a child by Bobby Deol’s character Fateh, who raised her before becoming the very enemy she now wants to destroy.
The story borrows symbolism from the Ramayana, but flips the narrative. This Sita is not waiting to be rescued.
In one of the trailer’s most powerful moments, she makes it clear: this time, she’s ready to burn Lanka herself.
Sharvari’s mystery character: Is she Ruhi?
Perhaps the biggest unanswered question in Alpha revolves around Sharvari’s character.
The trailer introduces her in a fight sequence against Sita, only to later show the two seemingly fighting on the same side. But beyond that, the makers have kept everything tightly under wraps.
Sharvari herself has hinted that there’s a major surprise tied to her role.
And fans think they’ve cracked it.
A popular theory suggests she could be playing an older Ruhi, the adoptive daughter of Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir, who was shown studying in Spain in War 2.
Interestingly, Sharvari’s first major scene in the Alpha trailer also appears to be set in Spain adding fuel to the theory.
If true, it would be one of the smartest continuity moves in the franchise so far.

Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir returns
Just when the trailer seems done revealing its secrets, it drops one final surprise.
A mysterious man sitting quietly in a monastery. The face remains hidden until the camera zooms in on his unmistakable green eyes.
That’s all fans needed.
Kabir is back.

While it’s only a brief appearance, Hrithik Roshan’s return confirms that Alpha is deeply tied to the larger YRF spy storyline and not simply operating on the sidelines.
A new generation takes over
For years, the YRF Spy Universe has been powered by Salman Khan’s Tiger, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, and Hrithik’s Kabir.
But Alpha may mark the moment the baton begins to pass.
With Alia and Sharvari stepping into lead action roles, the universe appears to be expanding beyond its original male-led spy framework.
And Kabir’s return? It feels less like a cameo and more like a symbolic handover.
Now, fans are wondering: could Pathaan, Tiger, Zoya, or Rubina also make surprise appearances?
The trailer reveals nothing.
And in the spy universe, that’s exactly how it should be.
