Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Benched Again? India Defends Teen Sensation’s Ireland Snub With ‘Wait Your Turn’ Message

The buzz around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to grow, but fans hoping to see the teenage sensation make his senior India debut during the Ireland T20I series will have to wait a little longer.

Despite his explosive performances in the IPL 2026, the 15-year-old batter has remained on the sidelines as India suffered a surprising series defeat against Ireland. Now, the team management has finally addressed the decision.

Speaking after the series, India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate made it clear that while Sooryavanshi is more than capable of stepping onto the international stage, the management is sticking to its long-term philosophy of backing players through rough patches.

“He is absolutely ready to play international cricket; there is no doubt about that. But it isn’t fair to leave out someone like Sanju Samson, who played a huge role in helping India win the World Cup just three months ago,” Ryan said.

The statement comes amid growing calls for Sooryavanshi’s inclusion after his dream IPL season, where he smashed a staggering 776 runs in just 16 innings, earning the Player of the Tournament award with an unbelievable strike rate of 237.3.

Those numbers made him impossible to ignore, forcing selectors to fast-track his entry into the national squad. However, earning a place in the squad and getting into the playing XI are two very different battles.

India’s decision to persist with Sanju Samson, despite his disappointing returns of two golden ducks against Ireland, signals the management’s belief in continuity over impulsive changes.

Ryan stressed that dropping a senior player too soon could send the wrong message to the dressing room.

“We want to give players confidence and let them know they’ll get a proper run in the team. Vaibhav is exciting, and everyone wants to see him play, but he has to follow the same process as everyone else and bide his time,” he added.

For now, all eyes shift to the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, where Sooryavanshi could finally get his chance if India decides to rotate or experiment.

The teenager’s meteoric rise has already made him one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket. But as the team management insists, talent alone isn’t enough — patience may now be his biggest test.

One thing is certain: whenever Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally walks out in the blue jersey, the expectations will be sky-high.
