Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Silence on Viral ‘T20I Snub’ Quotes… Backs Team India and Sends Special Message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has issued a strong clarification after several fake statements, allegedly attributed to him following his removal as captain, began circulating on social media.

The star batter urged fans not to believe or share unverified claims, making it clear that he has not made any controversial comments regarding his exclusion from India’s T20I setup. Instead, Suryakumar chose to throw his full support behind Shreyas Iyer’s young Indian side and congratulated teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on his international debut.

Suryakumar Rejects Fake Quotes

Taking to social media, Suryakumar addressed the rumours directly and requested fans to ignore false information being shared in his name.

“I’ve also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorised any such statement. Please don’t believe or share unverified information,” he wrote.

His clarification came shortly after India announced the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he was not included.

Special Advice for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

While dismissing the rumours, Suryakumar also took time to encourage 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently made his T20I debut during the ongoing series against England.

The experienced batter praised the youngster and urged him to enjoy every moment of his international journey.

“A special word for Vaibhav—you are at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy every moment and keep making the country proud,” Suryakumar wrote.

His message was widely appreciated by fans, who praised the former captain for supporting India’s next generation despite his own disappointment.

Why Was Suryakumar Dropped?

Suryakumar not only lost the T20I captaincy but also missed out on a place in the squad, with Shreyas Iyer taking over the leadership role.

The decision followed a mixed run of form for the Mumbai Indians batter.

Although India lifted the T20 World Cup 2026, Suryakumar struggled to consistently produce match-winning performances during the tournament. His standout innings came against the United States, where he played a crucial knock after India suffered an early batting collapse.

His place also came under scrutiny following a below-par IPL 2026 campaign with Mumbai Indians.

The five-time IPL champions endured a disappointing season, finishing ninth in the points table. Suryakumar scored 270 runs in 13 innings, averaging 20.76, while registering a strike rate of 147.54. He managed two half-centuries but failed to deliver consistently throughout the tournament.

Despite his IPL struggles, Suryakumar has enjoyed a productive 2026 in international T20 cricket.

So far this year, he has accumulated 484 runs in 14 T20Is at an impressive average of 44, striking at 161.33, including four half-centuries.

That marked a significant improvement from his difficult 2025 campaign, when he scored just 218 runs in 19 innings at an average of 13.62, without registering a single fifty.

Focus Remains on Team India

Rather than reacting negatively to his omission, Suryakumar has chosen to publicly support the national team during its transition period.

His message backing Shreyas Iyer’s side and encouraging Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reflects his commitment to Indian cricket, even as he awaits another opportunity to return to the national team.
