Shwetha Menon Says Hema Committee-Accused Should Not Lead AMMA Amid Ongoing Dispute
Shwetha Menon has said individuals facing serious allegations in the Hema Committee report should not hold leadership positions in AMMA.

Malayalam actor Shwetha Menon has broken her silence amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), making it clear that her legal battle is directed against what she described as a “power group” within the organisation rather than individual members.

In a detailed statement shared on social media, the actor alleged that individuals facing serious allegations in the Hema Committee report should not be entrusted with leadership positions in AMMA, adding that she would continue her fight to ensure accountability within the organisation.

‘My fight is only with the power group’

Explaining why she chose to speak publicly now, Shwetha Menon said she had initially remained silent but felt compelled to respond after claiming that certain members were attempting to humiliate her and divert attention from the issues she had raised.

According to the actor, her objections are specifically aimed at individuals named in the Hema Committee report. She alleged that during AMMA’s previous general body meeting, efforts were made to isolate and expel her instead of addressing the concerns she had brought before the organisation.

She further claimed that whenever she questioned alleged financial irregularities involving some office-bearers, the discussion shifted towards personal allegations against her rather than the issues she had raised.

Rejects political allegations

Shwetha Menon also dismissed allegations linking her to any political party.

Responding to claims that she had allegedly received financial support from a national political party to influence AMMA elections, the actor questioned the logic behind such accusations.

She stated that if she had any political affiliation, she would have no reason to conceal it, while also noting that members associated with different political ideologies have been part of AMMA’s executive committee over the years.

Appealing for unity, she urged members not to divide the artists’ association along political, religious, or communal lines, emphasising that audiences in Kerala have always respected artists beyond such identities.

Financial concerns remain a key issue

The actor reiterated that her primary concern remains transparency within AMMA.

She alleged that the controversy surrounding her had overshadowed questions she had raised regarding the organisation’s finances and referred to alleged corruption-related concerns that, according to her, had also been acknowledged by actor and former AMMA General Secretary Ramesh Pisharody.

‘I will not back down’

Concluding her statement, Shwetha Menon vowed to continue opposing the appointment of anyone facing serious allegations in the Hema Committee report to leadership positions within AMMA.

She declared that she would not be intimidated or silenced and insisted that the organisation deserved greater transparency and accountability.

The controversy comes at a time when AMMA continues to face scrutiny following the release of the Hema Committee report, which renewed discussions about governance, workplace safety, and accountability within the Malayalam film industry.
