Anushka Sen poses during the announcement of her South Korean debut film Jeju Olle, making history as the first Indian actress to headline a Korean movie.

Anushka Sen has added a remarkable new chapter to her career by becoming the first Indian actress to lead a South Korean feature film. At just 23, the young star is now stepping into international cinema with Jeju Olle, a romantic musical drama that blends storytelling from both India and South Korea.

The film marks a major milestone not just for Anushka but also for the growing collaboration between the two entertainment industries.

In Jeju Olle, Anushka essays the role of Alisha, a singer who arrives on the breathtaking Jeju Island while dealing with the emotional pain of losing her sister. As she tries to heal and find her path again, she forms an unexpected connection with Sunwoo, a singer-songwriter played by Korean actor Kang Hyung-seok.

Set against the stunning landscapes of Jeju, the film promises an emotional blend of love, music, and healing.

Speaking about the project, Anushka shared that the film holds special significance because she has always loved romantic musicals and had dreamt of being part of a story like this.

The actress revealed that her fascination with K-dramas began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she started exploring Korean storytelling and instantly connected with its emotional depth.

“I always wanted all my K-drama wishes fulfilled,” Anushka said, calling the project a dream come true.

For Anushka, the experience wasn’t just about acting — it was also about adapting to a completely different work environment.

She admitted that working with an entirely Korean crew came with challenges, especially because of the language barrier. However, she said the universal language of art helped bridge every gap.

“Everyone on set was passionate. It made me realise that storytelling goes beyond language and nationality,” she shared.

Interestingly, Jeju Olle also marks another first for Anushka. It is her first commercial international film and her first acting role where most of her dialogues are in English. The multilingual film will feature English, Korean, and portions of Hindi, making it a truly global project.

Adding a personal touch to the film, Anushka revealed that she shares the same surname as her character in the story, making the role feel even closer to her.

Shot entirely across Jeju Island, the film is being planned for release in South Korea, India, and several countries across Asia and the Middle East.

With Jeju Olle, Anushka Sen is not just stepping into a new industry — she is breaking barriers and creating a path for future Indian actors to explore international storytelling on a larger scale.
