Who Is Helly Shah? Chumbak’s Twinkle Oberoi Once Went Viral for Getting ‘Locked in a Suitcase’ in This TV Show
From starting her acting career as a teenager to playing Twinkle Oberoi in Netflix’s Chumbak, Helly Shah has come a long way but many viewers still remember her for one bizarre Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 scene that became instant meme material.
Helly Shah is back in the spotlight following her appearance in Chumbak, where her comic performance as Twinkle Oberoi has caught viewers’ attention.
Released on September 11, the Netflix series features an ensemble cast that includes Neena Gupta, Arjun Bijlani, Anant Joshi, Deven Bhojani, Sumeet Raghavan, Manasi Parekh, Sumeet Vyas and Sandeepa Dhar, among others.
As audiences discover Helly in a different avatar, curiosity around the actress and her journey from Indian television to OTT platforms has also grown.
Interestingly, her career includes one television sequence that became unforgettable for an entirely different reason her character somehow ending up zipped inside a suitcase.
Who is Helly Shah?
Born on January 7, 1996, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Helly Shah entered the entertainment industry at a young age.
She began acting as a teenager and made her television debut in 2010 with Zindagi Ka Har Rang…Gulaal, playing the character Talli.
Helly gradually established herself on television through shows including Alaxmi – Hamari Super Bahu, Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi and Khushiyon Ki Gullak Aashi.
But one particular show would eventually transform her into a widely recognised television face.
Swaragini turned Helly Shah into a household name
Helly’s major breakthrough came with the popular Colors TV drama Swaragini.
She played Swara Bose Maheshwari, one of the central characters in the series. Her performance helped her gain widespread recognition among television audiences and established her as a leading actor on the small screen.
Following Swaragini, Helly continued taking on prominent roles and eventually became associated with another hugely discussed television drama Ishq Mein Marjawan 2.
The bizarre suitcase scene that went viral
In 2020, Helly played Riddhima opposite Rrahul Sudhir’s Vansh in the romantic thriller Ishq Mein Marjawan 2.
While the show attracted an audience for its romance and dramatic twists, one particularly unusual sequence became a social media phenomenon.
In the scene, Riddhima is walking through a corridor when she hits her head against a wall and loses consciousness.
What happens next left viewers baffled.
After fainting, Riddhima somehow lands perfectly inside an open suitcase. The suitcase is then zipped shut, carried away and eventually thrown into a swimming pool.

Vansh later notices the suitcase floating in the pool and manages to rescue Riddhima.
The exaggerated sequence quickly spread across social media, where users questioned the improbable chain of events particularly how an unconscious adult could conveniently fall into and fit inside a suitcase.
Clips from the scene became viral meme material, with users joking about the dramatic logic often associated with Indian television serials.
Years later, the suitcase sequence remains one of the more unusual viral moments associated with Helly’s television career.

Chumbak isn’t Helly Shah’s first OTT project
Although Chumbak has once again brought Helly into the conversation, the Netflix series is not her first experience in the OTT space.
She previously appeared as Dr Preeti Singh in Gullak Seasons 4 and 5, expanding her work beyond conventional television dramas.
Helly was also part of Prime Video’s Naam Namak Nishan, alongside actors including Varun Sood and Danish Sood.
Her move into streaming projects has allowed her to explore roles outside the television characters that initially made her famous.
Helly Shah plays Twinkle Oberoi in Chumbak
In Chumbak, Helly takes on the role of Twinkle Oberoi, adding a comic performance to her growing list of screen appearances.
The show brings her together with several established performers, including Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani, while also featuring familiar television and streaming faces such as Arjun Bijlani, Sumeet Raghavan, Manasi Parekh and Sumeet Vyas.
For viewers who primarily remember Helly as Swara from Swaragini or Riddhima from Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, her latest role offers another look at how her career has evolved.
From beginning as a teenage television actor to becoming a recognisable leading face and eventually expanding into OTT shows, Helly Shah’s journey has covered several phases of Indian entertainment.
And while her new role as Twinkle Oberoi is attracting fresh attention, longtime television viewers are unlikely to forget that extraordinary suitcase scene anytime soon.
