KS Bharat Begins A New Journey In Dubai

Former India wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat has taken the next big step in his cricketing journey after retiring from international cricket earlier this month.

The 32-year-old has reportedly relocated to Dubai, where he is now exploring multiple cricket-related opportunities within the growing cricket ecosystem of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The move has caught attention, especially because it comes at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced stricter policies for players looking to pursue overseas opportunities after retiring early.

Bharat Joins UAE-Based Team

According to reports, Bharat has already linked up with Team Stallions, one of the teams participating in a four-team competition organised by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

An official from Emirates Cricket reportedly confirmed that the Andhra Pradesh cricketer has settled in Dubai and is actively exploring both short-term and long-term cricket roles in the region.

While there is no official word yet on his exact plans, there is speculation that Bharat could also be considering opportunities in the International League T20 (ILT20) — one of UAE’s biggest franchise tournaments.

BCCI’s New Rule Adds A Twist

Bharat’s move comes shortly after the BCCI announced a five-year ban policy for Indian cricketers who retire in their prime and then seek professional opportunities outside India.

The rule was introduced to protect India’s domestic cricket structure and ensure players remain committed to the Indian system for longer.

This has naturally raised questions about how Bharat’s overseas ambitions may fit within those regulations, though no official issue has been flagged so far.

A Short But Memorable India Career

KS Bharat made his Test debut for India in February 2023 against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur.

He was trusted as India’s wicketkeeper throughout the series and later featured in the World Test Championship Final 2023 at The Oval.

In total, Bharat played seven Test matches for India between 2023 and 2024.

His final appearances came during India’s home series against England earlier this year, where after a difficult run with the bat, he lost his place to rising wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Strong Domestic And IPL Experience

Beyond the international stage, Bharat built a strong reputation in India’s domestic circuit and also had his moments in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals, gaining valuable franchise cricket experience.

His most productive IPL season came in 2021, where he scored 191 runs in eight matches for Bengaluru and impressed with his calm middle-order batting.

His stint with Delhi in 2022, however, was brief and less impactful.

A Growing Trend Among Retired Cricketers

Bharat now joins a growing list of former cricketers turning to the UAE for fresh opportunities — whether as players, mentors, coaches or franchise professionals.

With the UAE emerging as a major cricket hub, the move could open new doors for the former Indian keeper.

For Bharat, retirement may have closed one chapter, but it looks like another promising one is just beginning.
