New Delhi: Vespa has pulled the covers off its most powerful production scooter ever, introducing the Edizione Ottantesimo to celebrate the brand’s remarkable 80-year journey. Designed as a tribute to Vespa’s rich heritage, the anniversary edition is limited to just 1,946 units globally, a number chosen to honour the year the iconic Italian scooter brand was founded.
Built on the recently updated Vespa GTS 310 platform, the limited-edition model combines modern performance with classic styling inspired by the original Vespa scooters that first appeared in 1946.
The Most Powerful Vespa Yet
At the heart of the Edizione Ottantesimo sits a 310cc single-cylinder engine producing 25 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production Vespa.
The increase in performance moves the scooter well beyond the traditional city commuter category and places it closer to the premium maxi-scooter segment, offering stronger highway performance alongside everyday usability.
Modern Technology Meets Classic Design
Despite its retro-inspired appearance, the anniversary edition comes loaded with modern features.
The scooter is equipped with a 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument display, complemented by Vespa MIA smartphone connectivity, allowing riders to manage phone calls, music playback and navigation prompts directly through the handlebar controls.
This combination of heritage styling and connected technology gives the scooter a premium feel without compromising the timeless Vespa identity.
Exclusive Styling for Collectors
To distinguish it from the standard GTS range, Vespa has introduced several exclusive cosmetic updates.
The scooter wears a unique grey and pastel green paint scheme, inspired by the original single-colour finishes seen on early Vespa models. Matching green seat upholstery and specially designed solid wheel rims pay homage to the stamped steel wheels used on the historic Vespa 98.
Each unit also receives a numbered commemorative plaque beneath the seat, satin chrome detailing and a special “80 Years of Vespa – Est. 1946” badge.

Owners will additionally receive a colour-matched open-face helmet and a premium Assouline hardbound photo book, featuring archival images documenting Vespa’s eight-decade history.
Will It Launch in India?
For Indian Vespa enthusiasts, there is disappointing news.
The company has confirmed that the Edizione Ottantesimo will be sold exclusively in Europe, with no announcement regarding availability in India or other Asia-Pacific markets.
Currently, Vespa’s Indian lineup consists mainly of the VXL and SXL scooter ranges, both powered by significantly smaller engines than the new GTS 310 platform.
As things stand, the anniversary edition is expected to remain a collector’s model reserved for European buyers, making it unlikely to arrive at Indian dealerships anytime soon.

Although Indian customers may not get access to this special edition, the Edizione Ottantesimo demonstrates how Vespa continues to blend its iconic design language with modern engineering.
