Actor Pooja Chopra’s Mother Reveals Her In-Laws Were Unhappy With Daughter’s Birth: “Khatam Kar Do Isko”
In an emotional television appearance, Neera Chopra opened up about the painful discrimination she faced after the birth of her second daughter, actress and former Miss India Pooja Chopra, revealing a journey marked by rejection, resilience and ultimate triumph.
Behind the glamour of the entertainment industry often lie stories of struggle that remain hidden from public view. One such deeply emotional story recently came to light when Neera Chopra, the mother of actress and Miss India 2009 Pooja Chopra, shared the hardships she endured following the birth of her daughters.
Speaking on the reality show “Tum Ho Naa – Ghar Ki Superstar”, hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal, Neera recounted the difficult circumstances she faced within her marital family and the painful reality of gender bias that shaped her early years as a mother.
Reflecting on her life after marriage, Neera said that while her in-laws initially appeared supportive, there was an underlying expectation for a male child. After the birth of her first daughter, she noticed that family members believed a son would improve the atmosphere in the household.

Years later, when she gave birth to her second daughter, Pooja Chopra, the situation reportedly worsened dramatically.
According to Neera, she was left feeling isolated during one of the most vulnerable periods of her life. She recalled that for three days after childbirth, no family member came to visit her at the hospital. The experience became even more painful when she struggled to arrange basic necessities for her newborn.
The emotional revelations did not end there.
Neera shared that she faced repeated pressure from family members who were unhappy about the birth of another daughter. She revealed that she was told to either abandon the child or leave her in an orphanage. The shocking remarks, she said, left a lasting impact on her and became one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
Despite the emotional trauma, Neera chose not to give up. Instead, she focused on raising her daughters with determination and courage, overcoming financial, social, and emotional challenges along the way.

Her perseverance eventually paid off. Pooja Chopra went on to become one of India’s most recognised beauty queens after winning the Miss India title in 2009. She later established herself in the entertainment industry, proving that talent and determination can overcome even the toughest circumstances.
The story has resonated with many viewers, sparking conversations about gender discrimination, societal expectations, and the challenges faced by women raising daughters in a patriarchal environment.
Today, Neera’s journey stands as a powerful reminder of a mother’s strength. What began as a story of rejection and heartbreak eventually transformed into one of resilience, sacrifice, and success.
For many, her emotional account is not just about one family’s struggle—it is a reflection of the battles countless women have fought and continue to fight in pursuit of dignity, equality, and a better future for their children.
