‘Michael’ makes box office history: Jaafar Jackson film beats 20-year record to become biggest biopic ever
The Michael Jackson biopic has officially broken records at the North American box office, overtaking ‘The Passion of the Christ’ and cementing its place as the highest-grossing biopic of all time.
The box office journey of ‘Michael’ continues to rewrite history.
The much-talked-about Michael Jackson biopic, starring Jaafar Jackson, has now officially become the highest-grossing biopic of all time at the North American box office, adding another major milestone to its blockbuster run.
After recently claiming the same title globally by overtaking ‘Oppenheimer’, the film has now achieved domestic supremacy as well.
According to the latest box office figures, ‘Michael’ earned an additional $117,000 on its 10th Thursday, taking its total domestic collection to $370.8 million.
That figure was enough to surpass the long-standing domestic record held by Mel Gibson’s 2004 biblical drama ‘The Passion of the Christ’, which had also finished with $370.8 million during its theatrical run.
A 20-year-old record finally broken
For over two decades, ‘The Passion of the Christ’ stood as the most successful biographical drama in North America.
But ‘Michael’ has now edged past that mark, creating a historic moment for the genre.
What makes the feat even more impressive is that the film achieved it despite losing over 700 theatres last week and now running in just 711 locations across North America.
Even with reduced screens and its digital release already underway, the film has maintained strong momentum.

The success doesn’t stop there.
The film has also overtaken ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ at the domestic box office, becoming the 65th highest-grossing film of all time in North America.
Industry projections now estimate that ‘Michael’ could finish its domestic run between $372 million and $375 million, further extending its record.
Global domination continues

Internationally, the film has been equally unstoppable.
So far, ‘Michael’ has earned $607.3 million overseas, pushing its total worldwide collection to a staggering $978.1 million.
That makes it the highest-grossing biopic in global box office history, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film traces the extraordinary life, struggles, and legacy of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, blending music, controversy, and personal triumph into one cinematic event.
Released on April 24, the film has become both a critical and commercial phenomenon, with audiences worldwide showing strong interest in the story of one of music’s greatest icons.
With the $1 billion mark now within touching distance, ‘Michael’ could soon add yet another massive record to its already historic run.
