Mahindra appears to be intensifying testing for its highly anticipated compact SUV, the Vision S, as a fresh test mule has now been spotted in the hills of Mussoorie. Ever since the SUV was showcased during Mahindra’s Freedom NU event in August 2025, excitement surrounding the model has continued to grow among Indian automobile enthusiasts.

The upcoming SUV, which many enthusiasts have nicknamed the “Baby Scorpio”, is expected to arrive in the Indian market by August 2026. Recent spy shots provide a clearer look at the SUV’s rugged design language and hint at a feature-packed cabin aimed at young buyers and adventure lovers.

From the outside, the Mahindra Vision S carries a bold and upright appearance that instantly reminds buyers of Mahindra’s signature SUV DNA. The test vehicle showcases a boxy silhouette, a flat bonnet, and a muscular front fascia that gives it a commanding road presence.

One of the standout details is the pair of round LED headlamps, which are likely to be paired with circular LED DRLs similar to those seen on the Mahindra Thar Roxx. The SUV also features a vertically slatted grille, chunky wheel arches, rectangular fog lamp housings and large alloy wheels, further strengthening its rugged appeal.

Interestingly, the prototype also revealed a visible radar module positioned in the lower grille section. This strongly suggests that Mahindra could offer ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) in the Vision S, a feature that is becoming increasingly common in premium compact SUVs.

The side profile continues the tough SUV character with flush door handles, a straight roofline, rectangular rear quarter glass and pronounced body cladding. At the rear, vertically positioned taillamps, a flat rear windshield and an externally mounted spare wheel complete the design.

While the latest spy images did not fully reveal the cabin, earlier sightings have already hinted at several premium features. Reports suggest the Vision S could come equipped with a large panoramic sunroof, a dual-screen dashboard layout, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The SUV is also expected to offer modern comfort and convenience features including ventilated seats, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a drive mode selector, hill descent control, traction control and a stylish three-spoke steering wheel. Mahindra is likely to position the SUV as a premium compact off-roader with urban practicality.

Under the hood, official powertrain details are yet to be confirmed. However, industry reports indicate that the Vision S may be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. Buyers could get multiple transmission choices including a 6-speed manual gearbox, 6-speed DCT automatic, and an AMT option.

With its rugged styling, advanced technology and potential off-road capabilities, the Mahindra Vision S could become one of the most talked-about launches in India’s compact SUV segment next year. As competition heats up in the market, Mahindra appears ready to strengthen its SUV portfolio with another bold offering designed specifically for Indian roads and buyers.
