Jaguar Land Rover recalls over 2.5 lakh SUVs in US… “Airbag failure risk” triggers major safety action
The luxury automaker owned by Tata Motors has initiated a large-scale recall of over 250,000 SUVs in the United States over a potential airbag defect linked to corrosion risks, according to the NHTSA.
British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced a major safety recall in the United States, affecting approximately 250,857 SUVs, following concerns over a potential airbag system defect that could increase the risk of injury during a crash.
The recall was confirmed by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through a regulatory filing, and involves multiple Jaguar Land Rover SUV models produced over a span of several years.
According to safety regulators, the issue is linked to a possible failure in the driver-side airbag clock spring connector terminals, which may become vulnerable to corrosion over time. If corrosion occurs, it can interfere with the electrical connection required for the airbag to deploy properly in the event of a collision.
No Reported Injuries So Far
So far, Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors, has not reported any confirmed crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the defect. The recall has been classified as a preventive safety measure aimed at addressing the issue before it leads to real-world incidents.
A report cited by Reuters suggests that the company is taking proactive steps to ensure customer safety across affected vehicles.

Which Models Are Affected?
The recall reportedly covers several popular SUV models, including:
- Land Rover Defender
- Land Rover Discovery
- Range Rover series
These vehicles are believed to have been manufactured between 2019 and 2026, although the exact list of affected units may be further refined once official documentation is fully released by regulators.

Fix and Repair Process
As part of the corrective action, authorised Jaguar Land Rover dealerships will inspect and repair affected vehicles. The solution involves applying a protective lubricant gel to the connector terminals to prevent corrosion and restore proper airbag functionality.
Importantly, the repair will be carried out free of charge for vehicle owners.
Customers will be notified directly by the company and instructed to schedule service appointments at authorised service centres.
Temporary Sales Pause Reported
Media reports also suggest that Jaguar Land Rover has implemented a temporary stop-sale on unsold affected vehicles while the corrective measures are being rolled out.
However, the company has clarified that the final technical details and exact scope of the recall will be confirmed once complete reports are issued by NHTSA and the automaker itself.
