There are luxury SUVs, and then there is the BMW X6 a car that has spent nearly two decades dividing opinions and ignoring conventions.

Ever since its debut, the X6 has never tried to be the practical choice. It took the idea of an SUV, chopped its roofline, sacrificed some practicality, and created a segment of its own. Some loved it instantly. Others never quite understood it.

And that’s exactly why it still matters.

Now, after almost three years away from the Indian market, BMW has brought back the X6, this time in its more powerful M60i avatar. This isn’t an all-new model but a significant facelift, or as BMW likes to call it, a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI).

But don’t mistake it for just a cosmetic refresh.

The silhouette remains largely unchanged because frankly, it never needed fixing. The X6 still looks like nothing else on the road. In a sea of lookalike luxury SUVs, its coupe-inspired stance, muscular bodywork, and aggressive proportions continue to stand out.

BMW has sharpened the details this time around.

The front gets slimmer LED headlamps, a redesigned bumper, and subtle grille tweaks that make the face look cleaner and more modern. Along the sides, the removal of glossy piano black trim in favour of satin grey elements gives the SUV a more mature and premium look.

At the rear, the redesigned bumper and properly integrated exhaust finishers finally look cleaner and more cohesive.

Step inside, and the cabin feels instantly familiar but more modern.

The biggest upgrade here is the new curved digital display, which transforms the dashboard with BMW’s latest interface. It’s sharper, smoother, and easier to use than before. The rest of the cabin layout remains largely the same, but that’s hardly a complaint.

The X6 was already one of the better-built luxury cabins in its segment.

Premium materials, carbon-fibre trim, massage seats, and a powerful Harman Kardon sound system continue to deliver the luxury experience buyers expect at this level.

But the biggest story starts when you press the ignition.

Gone is the older M50i badge. In its place sits the M60i, powered by BMW’s legendary 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, now paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

The numbers are staggering 530bhp and 750Nm of torque.

And despite weighing over two tonnes, the X6 launches from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

What makes it special isn’t just the speed it’s how effortlessly it delivers it.

There’s no frantic rush, no dramatic kick. Instead, the X6 builds pace with relentless force, backed by the unmistakable soundtrack of a proper V8 something increasingly rare in today’s downsized and electrified world.

Even more impressive is how well it hides its size.

Thanks to adaptive M suspension, active rear-wheel steering, and the M Sport differential, the X6 feels far more agile than its dimensions suggest. It corners flat, rotates naturally, and feels surprisingly playful for an SUV this large.

The rear-biased xDrive system adds to that dynamic character, making it feel less nose-heavy than many of its rivals.

Switch it into Eco Pro mode, and the X6 calms down for city duties. But it’s in Sport mode where the real personality comes alive sharper throttle response, quicker gearshifts, heavier steering, and a louder, angrier V8.

This is where the X6 feels at home.

Priced at ₹1.77 crore (ex-showroom), the X6 M60i remains far from rational. If practicality is the goal, the BMW X5 makes more sense.

But the X6 has never been about logic.

It’s for buyers who want character, performance, and a luxury SUV that still feels rebellious even after all these years.

And that’s exactly what makes it special.

The BMW X6 M60i isn’t trying to be sensible it’s trying to be unforgettable. And once again, it succeeds.
