BCCI to Review India’s T20I Team After England Series Disaster… Major Changes on the Cards?
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirms a comprehensive review of India’s T20I team after the England tour following a string of disappointing performances against Ireland and England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct a comprehensive review of the Indian men’s T20I team following its disappointing performances against England and Ireland.
The announcement comes after India’s struggles continued in the ongoing England tour, where the hosts secured an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series with a dominant victory in Bristol.
BCCI Confirms Performance Review
Speaking during the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia acknowledged that the Indian team is currently going through a difficult phase and confirmed that a detailed assessment would be carried out once the England tour concludes.
According to Saikia, the board will carefully examine the reasons behind the team’s poor performances and work on finding solutions before the next international assignments.
He added that the review meeting will take place immediately after the ODI series against England, which concludes on July 19.
England Series Exposes India’s Weaknesses
India’s latest defeat highlighted several recurring problems that have troubled the side throughout the tour.
Batting first in Bristol, India managed only 158/7, with captain Shreyas Iyer standing out through an unbeaten 80-run innings. Apart from the skipper, the batting lineup struggled once again, with poor shot selection leading to regular wickets.
England chased down the target comfortably, thanks to unbeaten knocks from captain Harry Brook (79)* and opener *Phil Salt (59)**, sealing victory with six overs to spare.
A Difficult Phase for Team India
India’s recent T20I record has raised serious concerns.
The reigning T20 World Cup champions first suffered their maiden 2-0 T20I series defeat to Ireland before losing the series against England, which also included a record 125-run defeat after being bowled out for just 76 in Nottingham.
The poor run has intensified scrutiny on the team’s batting approach, bowling depth and overall execution.

Key Areas Under Review
The BCCI is expected to evaluate multiple aspects of the team’s performances.
One of the biggest concerns has been the inability of both the top and middle order to adapt to challenging overseas conditions. The batting unit has struggled against seam movement, leading to repeated collapses.
The bowling attack has also missed the experience of senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, while India’s fielding standards have dipped compared to recent years.
The review could also focus on team combinations, leadership decisions and player roles ahead of future international tournaments.
Final T20I Holds Extra Importance

India will now look to avoid a whitewash when they face England in the fifth and final T20I at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
Apart from restoring confidence, a victory could also help India retain the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.
Following the England tour, India are scheduled to travel to Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series beginning on July 23 in Harare.
Whether the BCCI’s review leads to significant changes in personnel or strategy remains to be seen, but the board has made it clear that the team’s recent performances will be examined thoroughly before the next chapter of India’s T20I journey begins.
