2027 Hyundai elantra breaks cover: Bigger design, AI features and hybrid power make a bold statement

Hyundai Motor Company has officially introduced the eighth-generation Hyundai Elantra at the 2026 Busan Mobility Show, showcasing a complete redesign that blends futuristic styling, advanced software technology and improved efficiency. The all-new sedan represents Hyundai’s next step toward software-defined mobility while raising the benchmark in the compact sedan segment.

Built around Hyundai’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy, the 2027 Hyundai Elantra features a sharper and more aerodynamic appearance than its predecessor. The front fascia is highlighted by a futuristic grille and slim H-edge LED daytime running lights, creating a wider and lower stance that enhances its sporty character.

From the side, the sedan retains its traditional three-box silhouette but now features a longer bonnet, muscular wheel arches, flush door handles, slim-profile side mirrors and newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, H-shaped LED taillamps, an integrated spoiler on the boot lid and an aerodynamic diffuser complete the modern design.

Hyundai has also introduced six fresh exterior colours, including Kodiak Blue Matte, Raptor Grey Matte and Graphene Green Pearl, while the cabin can be configured in premium shades such as Cognac, Ivory Rose and Chalk Beige.

Larger Dimensions, More Spacious Cabin

The new Elantra measures 4,765 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,425 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing generation, the sedan is longer, wider and has a larger wheelbase, translating into improved cabin space and greater passenger comfort.

Inside, Hyundai has adopted a driver-focused cockpit with a clean, symmetrical dashboard layout. Depending on the variant, buyers will get either a 14.6-inch or 12.9-inch central touchscreen, accompanied by a dedicated digital driver’s display positioned directly in the line of sight.

The cabin also retains physical buttons for frequently used controls, ensuring convenience while driving.

AI-Powered Technology Takes Centre Stage

One of the biggest highlights of the new Elantra is Hyundai’s latest Pleos Connect infotainment platform, based on the Android Automotive Operating System. The system supports split-screen multitasking and integrates the company’s new AI-powered virtual assistant, Gleo AI, designed to deliver a smarter and more intuitive user experience.

Other premium features include a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, Built-in Cam 2 Plus, Over-the-Air software updates, Hyundai Digital Key 2, and 100W ultra-fast USB charging ports, making the cabin more connected than ever before.

Petrol and Hybrid Engine Options

The eighth-generation Elantra will be offered with two powertrain choices. Buyers can choose a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 146.96 bhp, paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), or a 1.6-litre strong hybrid-petrol powertrain delivering a combined output of 154.85 bhp.

The hybrid model features an advanced regenerative braking system that automatically adjusts braking force based on traffic conditions and navigation data. Hyundai has also introduced a Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control System, which analyses upcoming road conditions to optimise battery usage and improve efficiency.

A new Stay Mode further enhances convenience by allowing occupants to operate the climate control and infotainment systems while the vehicle is parked without keeping the petrol engine running, delivering an experience similar to that of an electric vehicle.

Comprehensive Safety Package

Hyundai has strengthened the Elantra’s body structure with increased use of ultra-high-strength steel, improving crash protection and overall rigidity.

The sedan comes equipped with an extensive list of advanced driver assistance systems, including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Steering Wheel Grip Detection, and 10 airbags.

The upgraded smart cruise control can even adjust vehicle speed automatically while approaching intersections, speed bumps and designated speed enforcement zones.

Launch Timeline

Hyundai has confirmed that detailed variant-wise specifications, official fuel efficiency figures and pricing will be announced during the third quarter of 2026, when bookings are expected to begin.

Ahead of the launch, the company has started an ‘Early Pass’ pre-registration programme through its official website until August 2. Hyundai is also offering promotional incentives, including a lottery where selected customers can receive purchase subsidies of up to 1 million won.
