Asha Negi responds to Rohit Roy’s ‘dustbin medium’ remark on TV: ‘Don’t know what the intention was behind…’

Television actress Asha Negi has responded to Rohit Roy’s controversial description of television as a “dustbin medium”, choosing not to judge the actor’s comments while speaking about the enormous role the small screen has played in her own career.

During an interaction with IANS, Asha Negi said she was not aware of the intention behind Rohit Roy’s remark or what personal experiences may have prompted him to make such a statement.

“I don’t know what the intention was behind it, what people go through… What type of frustration they have experienced? I cannot comment on what he said,” Asha said.

Asha Negi credits television for her success

While she refrained from directly criticising Rohit Roy, Asha made her own feelings about television clear. The actress said the medium gave her everything she has today and helped establish her as a familiar face in households across the country.

A major turning point in her career came with the popular television drama Pavitra Rishta, which also starred Ankita Lokhande and the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

Asha played Purvi in the show, a character that became closely associated with her public identity. Years later, she says viewers still recognise her by the character’s name.

“For me personally, television has given me everything. I became a household name because of television, and till today people still call me Purvi, my character name from Pavitra Rishta,” she said.

‘I will always be grateful to television’

For Asha Negi, that lasting connection with audiences is something she believes television was uniquely able to provide.

On the professional front, Asha Negi is currently seen in Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, a horror-comedy series blending ancient folklore, supernatural mysteries and adventure.

The series features Asha Negi as Alisha “Ali” Nigam, while Vishal Vashishtha plays Baba.

Set against a world inspired by Central Indian folklore, the story revolves around Ali, a sharp and science-driven neuropsychology expert. Her search for her missing father unexpectedly takes her into a mysterious world where scientific reasoning comes face-to-face with seemingly supernatural events.
