‘I Thought the Result Wasn’t Mine’: Student Who Scored 54% in Class 10 Cracks IIT Bombay with AIR 349
After scoring just 54% in his Class 10 board exams, Jainendrajeet transformed his academic journey through discipline and consistency, eventually securing 99.98 percentile in JEE Main 2023 and admission to IIT Bombay.
A disappointing 54% score in the Class 10 board examinations could have ended Jainendrajeet’s academic confidence. Instead, it became the turning point that inspired him to work harder than ever before.
Years later, the same student achieved 99.98 percentile in JEE Main 2023, secured All India Rank (AIR) 349 in JEE Advanced, and earned admission to the prestigious Computer Science programme at IIT Bombay.
His inspiring journey has now resonated with thousands of students, proving that one examination does not define an individual’s future.
‘I thought the result wasn’t mine’
Sharing his story in a YouTube video, Jainendrajeet recalled the shock he experienced when his Class 10 results were announced.
“I opened the website, looked at my score and froze. My first thought was, ‘This can’t be my result,'” he said.
He had scored only 41 marks in Mathematics and 48 marks in Science, bringing his overall percentage down to 54%.
Watching many of his classmates score above 90% made the disappointment even more difficult to process.
Rather than worrying only about the marks, he admitted that he was anxious about how his parents and people around him would react.
Health issues affected board exam preparation
Jainendrajeet explained that his poor performance was influenced by circumstances beyond his control.
He revealed that he had remained on bed rest for nearly 40 to 50 days before the board examinations, significantly affecting his preparation.
Despite the setback, he decided not to let one difficult phase determine the rest of his academic life.
Instead, he reminded himself:”This isn’t who you are. You’re better than this.”
That simple thought became the motivation to rebuild his confidence.
A disciplined routine changed everything
After completing Class 10, Jainendrajeet completely transformed his study habits.
He adopted a structured daily routine that focused on consistency rather than shortcuts.
His preparation strategy included:

- Studying topics before classroom lectures using educational YouTube videos.
- Setting clear daily study goals.
- Solving Previous Year Questions (PYQs) immediately after finishing every chapter.
- Limiting social media distractions.
- Increasing study time gradually to nearly 10 hours every day.
He believes consistency, rather than overnight success, helped him steadily improve.
Hard work paid off with IIT Bombay admission
Reflecting on his journey, Jainendrajeet said he realised excuses would never help him achieve meaningful goals.

“If I wanted to achieve something meaningful in life, excuses would no longer work,” he said.
His dedication eventually produced remarkable results.
He secured 99.98 percentile in JEE Main 2023, followed it with AIR 349 in JEE Advanced, and earned admission to the Computer Science programme at IIT Bombay, one of India’s most sought-after engineering institutions.
A reminder that one result doesn’t define success
Jainendrajeet’s story has become an inspiration for students who feel discouraged by poor examination results.
His journey highlights that academic setbacks can be temporary when combined with discipline, determination and consistent effort.
While board examination marks remain important, his experience serves as a powerful reminder that perseverance and the willingness to improve can open doors to extraordinary achievements.
