New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has once again become the center of attention after a video of his latest net practice session surfaced online, giving Indian cricket fans a positive sign ahead of the much-anticipated three-match ODI series against England.

The experienced opener looked confident and composed during his batting drills, effortlessly playing trademark straight drives, elegant cover drives, and several crisp strokes. The video quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with fans expressing excitement over Rohit’s return to full-fledged training.

The ODI series against England is scheduled to begin on July 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and will serve as an important assignment for the Indian team as it starts shaping its plans for future ICC tournaments.

Rohit Back After Injury Layoff

Rohit’s return to the nets comes after recovering from a hamstring injury that interrupted his IPL campaign earlier this year. Despite missing several matches, the veteran batter still managed to make a strong impact, scoring 283 runs in nine matches at an impressive strike rate of 157.22, including two half-centuries. His highest score during the tournament was 84.

The practice session indicates that the senior batter is working towards regaining full match rhythm before India’s overseas challenge.

Steady ODI Form in 2026

In the ODI format this year, Rohit has accumulated 204 runs in six matches, averaging 34.00 with a strike rate of 100. His best performance came during the ODI series against Afghanistan, where he registered scores of 16, 48, and 79, showing flashes of his trademark attacking style.

While the numbers may not fully reflect his influence, Rohit’s experience at the top of the order remains one of India’s biggest strengths heading into major tournaments.

A Record That Few Can Match

Rohit continues to be one of the greatest batters in ODI cricket. He currently stands as India’s third-highest run-scorer in the format with 11,720 runs from 285 matches, averaging 48.83.

His remarkable record includes 33 centuries and 62 fifties, while his unbeaten 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 remains the highest individual score in One-Day International history—a record that still stands unmatched.

Focus Shifts Towards the 2027 World Cup

Ever since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepped away from Test cricket last year, discussions around their ODI future have intensified. With the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup on the horizon, every appearance by the senior duo is being closely watched.

Rohit’s preparations ahead of the England series are expected to play a key role in assessing his fitness, form, and long-term plans in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has also been included in India’s ODI squad for the England series. However, his participation remains dependent on receiving final fitness clearance before the tour.

India ODI Squad for England Series

India have named a balanced squad led by Shubman Gill, with Shreyas Iyer serving as vice-captain. The squad also features experienced names like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and emerging talents including Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Gurnoor Brar.

With senior stars returning and young players eager to make their mark, the upcoming series promises to be an important test for India’s ODI ambitions.
