England Stick With Winning XI for 3rd T20I Against India; Will India’s Big Selection Calls Turn the Series Around?
Harry Brook’s side retains the same playing XI after a thrilling win in Manchester, while India face tough decisions ahead of the crucial third T20I at Trent Bridge.
England Back Winning Combination for Crucial Third T20I
England have decided to keep faith in the same playing XI that secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over India in the second T20I, naming an unchanged side for the third match of the series at Trent Bridge.
The decision reflects England’s confidence after bouncing back with a strong all-round performance in Manchester. Despite disappointing starts from openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, who were both dismissed without scoring, the team management has chosen to stick with the experienced duo at the top of the order.
Captain Harry Brook led from the front with an aggressive innings in the previous game, while Jacob Bethell produced a match-winning unbeaten knock. Tom Banton also played a valuable supporting role, giving England plenty of confidence heading into the next encounter.
England Playing XI for 3rd T20I
- Phil Salt
- Jos Buttler
- Harry Brook (Captain)
- Jacob Bethell
- Tom Banton
- Sam Curran
- Will Jacks
- Liam Dawson
- Jofra Archer
- Adil Rashid
- Josh Tongue
England have also retained debutant fast bowler Josh Tongue, despite an expensive outing in his first international appearance. Veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid continues to enjoy the team’s backing as England look to maintain consistency in their bowling attack.
How England Turned the Match Around
After being asked to bat first, India recovered well from early setbacks thanks to useful contributions from Abhishek Sharma (43), Ishan Kishan (49) and Shreyas Iyer (37).

Young debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi impressed with a fearless cameo, while Tilak Varma’s unbeaten late innings helped India post a competitive 190/7.
England’s chase began poorly as Arshdeep Singh removed both Salt and Buttler in quick succession. However, skipper Harry Brook counter-attacked brilliantly before Jacob Bethell took control of the innings.

Bethell’s unbeaten 76 and Banton’s important 39 stitched together a crucial partnership that shifted the momentum firmly in England’s favour. Although Arshdeep struck again to dismiss Banton, a costly over from leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, which yielded 29 runs, proved to be the turning point as England chased down the target with six balls remaining.
Selection Headache Awaits India
India are expected to seriously review their combination before the third T20I after consecutive defeats in the series.
One of the biggest talking points is the form of Ravi Bishnoi, whose expensive spell in the previous match has put his place under scrutiny. The team management could bring in Washington Sundar to strengthen the spin department or opt for an extra pace option by recalling Prince Yadav, who impressed with a three-wicket performance earlier.
Changes may not be limited to the bowling attack. India could also look to rebalance their batting order, which has become heavily left-handed following Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s inclusion.
Experienced wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is being viewed as a strong candidate for a return, either as an opening partner for Sooryavanshi or by replacing one of Ishan Kishan or Tilak Varma. All-rounder Suryansh Shedge is another player who could come into contention if India seek additional batting depth and greater flexibility.
A Crucial Contest at Trent Bridge
With England carrying momentum and India searching for answers, the third T20I promises to be a high-pressure contest. England will hope their unchanged lineup continues its winning run, while India will be eager to make the right selection calls and keep the series alive.
