Rishabh Pant set for emotional return to Delhi Capitals after two-season stint with Lucknow Super Giants ends.

In a dramatic twist in the world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is all set to return to his former franchise Delhi Capitals, marking the end of a short but highly talked-about chapter with Lucknow Super Giants.

Pant, who made headlines in the 2024 auction by becoming the most expensive player in IPL history after being picked for a staggering ₹27 crore, will now rejoin Delhi at a revised fee of ₹15 crore — a sharp 44% pay cut that has stunned fans and cricket experts alike.

When Lucknow Super Giants secured Pant in 2024, team owner Sanjiv Goenka had envisioned a long-term partnership, even suggesting that the explosive batter could become the face of the franchise for the next 15 years. The ambition was clear — build a championship-winning core around him.

However, reality told a different story.

Pant’s performance over two seasons failed to consistently match expectations. In his first season with Lucknow, he managed just 269 runs, a steep decline compared to his strong final season with Delhi Capitals, where he scored 446 runs and looked in top form.

His second season showed slight improvement, with 312 runs at a strike rate of 138, but inconsistency in batting positions and inability to convert starts into big innings raised concerns within the franchise setup.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Pant never fully settled into Lucknow’s system. The team’s strategy changes, batting order experiments, and pressure of his price tag all seemed to weigh heavily on his performance.

Now, his return to Delhi Capitals feels like a reset button — both for the player and the franchise that once built its future plans around him. For Delhi, it is a familiar face returning home; for Pant, it is a chance to rebuild rhythm, confidence, and leadership impact.

Cricket fans are already calling this one of the most surprising trade moves in IPL history, not just because of the financial drop, but because of the emotional connection between Pant and Delhi Capitals.

As IPL gears up for its next season, all eyes will be on one question — can Rishabh Pant rediscover his peak form where it all began?
